Web Design

Who's having this as a hobby: Stig

This site is a result of this hobby; It is mostly built up with Macromedia web design tools. The majority of the site is built with the following tools:

(*) Not implemented on the web site since the hosts webserver does not support ColdFusion

First attempt for a website logo... It all started with version 4 of Dreamveaver and Fireworks, and later the software package was upgraded to Macromedia Studio MX 2004 with Flash.

The aim of the website at present design is to use as little graphics as possible, and to avoid heavy use of tables for positioning. This has been achieved with extended use of Style Sheets, where the basis and examples of Macromedia has been an extreme good help to get this right. At present the use of frames is used a lot, to make the 'dynamics' and presentations to appear in the right places, and to build as many independent pages as possible to ease the update for short and long time.

To add menus both on top and bottom is now done in a way that it takes just a few minutes to add new content. No graphical buttons are used, but some 'icons' and other elements are of course graphics. But most of the graphics is positioned through use of style sheets instead of tables, the exception being the Genealogical Tree pages and Facts pages. These 2 page sets are built on Templates, since the content should be organized the same way each time. One additional design element is also used in a small degree, and that is use of layers...

Combined alternative logo The alternating pictures on this side is a result of the different classes (styles) in the style sheets. It is basically 2 more or less identical classes but with different 'float' and positioning used.

As a result the text floats nicely besides and below the images, and then without worrying about the 'constraints' that becomes a reality when tables are used.

This site is entirely built on spare time, even if professional tools are used. As a line of work, the one with this hobby has web design and software development as a line of work, but that work is entirely on different tools, where the majority of web design is done with Lotus Notes & Lotus Domino, a product from International Business Machines (IBM). The nature of that work is therefore quite different compared to the hobby version, but of course knowledge of web servers, web design and programming languages are a huge help to get things 'right'...
